Counties With Highest Murders Revealed - Report

A report by the National Police Service has listed the most dangerous counties to live in due to the high number of murder reports recorded.

Kilifi, Kiambu and Nakuru counties have overtaken Nairobi, which was ranked fourth, amidst a 4% rise in crime in the country since 2014.

According to the report, coastal counties registered the highest figures of criminal activities with Lamu coming first, followed by Mombasa then Taita-Taveta.

According to the report, crimes committed in these counties range from assault, use of dangerous drugs, cattle theft, general property thefts, suicides, defilement, false pretence among others. All the offences are reflected in the whole country with assault being the most committed.

The findings were achieved by grouping the counties' populations to establish the number of crimes committed per 100,000 people.

Kiambu on the other hand, led in the number of individually reported crimes at 4768 followed by Nakuru (4384), Nairobi (4383), Meru (4215) and Mombasa with 3194 cases.

The report implied that those counties with a relatively lower population experienced more crime. This was because the population targeted by criminals was smaller compared to those in more populous regions like Nairobi.

The revelations further showed that North Eastern counties of Wajir, Mandera and Garissa were the least affected by crime.
