County to Demolish Hospital, Build MCAs' Offices

The County Government of Isiolo has sparked public outcry after reports emerged that it was planning to turn a regional medical facility into offices for the Members of County Assembly.

The government is said to have approved demolition of the regional tuberculosis (TB) facility to build a new County Assembly headquarters.

Area residents have expressed concern over the plan since the medical centre, which was established by World Health Organisation, has been serving patients from five neighbouring counties.

“Grabbing of the TB manyatta land is abuse of human rights and putting health of TB patients and residents at risk,” decried a health rights activist.

Activists and area residents have now threatened to stage weekly protests against the plan to demolish the health centre.

In the past, counties have been criticised for prioritising 'unworthy' projects at the expense of development programs which are helpful to locals.
