The Kenya Medical Association (KMA) on Tuesday suspended Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu and his Principal Secretary Nicholus Muraguri as members of the Association.
KMA noted that the membership of the two leaders had been revoked for one year for failure to stand with doctors in the ongoing strike.
The Association made the statement after the Labour Court on Monday jailed seven officials of the doctors' union for one month.
At the same time, KMA ordered its members in private hospitals and universities to strike for 48 hours if the arrested colleagues are not released.
"We announce that all members in Health Facilities and institutions shall not be offering any services for 48hours effective midnight today, and further instructions shall be issued should the doctors still be in jail at the expiry of this period," KMA said.
The body further demanded President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack CS Mailu and his PS highlighting that they were collectively responsible for the current predicament.
