Death as Strange Disease Hits Village

A strange disease struck a village in Tharaka-Nithi County killing one child and left five others in critical conditions.

The standard five child died while receiving treatment at Chogoria Mission Hospital on Friday morning after experiencing severe symptoms of the disease.

20 Ukuruni villagers have complained of suffering from the disease after noting characteristic signs including diarrhoea and vomiting.

Findings of the bizzarre illness are yet to be made as Maara District Public Health Officer Simon Kamwario stated that samples from the patients had been taken to the government chemist for testing.

"We have taken the specimens from the sick for further screening in the government laboratory because we have not yet established the type of illness at our hospitals," the Nation qouted Mr Kamwario.

Despite the symptoms being similar to Cholera, the Health officers stated otherwise.

In the meantime, the villagers have been urged to maintain cleanliness to avoid further spread of the illness.

A resident, however, urged the County Health department to act fast and deploy mobile clinics in the area for convenience purposes.

"The nearest hospital is very far but a mobile clinic can help to attend to those who might fall sick at night," he said.
