Deputy President Wiliam Ruto Responds to Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka's Allegations

Deputy President William Ruto's office last night dismissed allegations by Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka that he is behind the money laundering charges against his charity, the Kalonzo Musyoka foundation.

The DP's statement maintained that while he empathised with the former vice president, Kalonzo was politisising an otherwise serious integrity issue that had been uncovered by the Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) Coordination Board.

"We know Musyoka’s statement is meant to serve some political interest. He should respond to specific questions irrespective of who is asking and stop looking for scapegoats," explained David Mugonyi, the DP's spokesperson.

Ruto's aide further stated that Kalonzo needed to be accountable to his donors as well as the Kenyan people as the DP was too busy to conduct a witch-hunt.

"Accountability is not a choice. Musyoka owes it to Kenyans and his donors," he maintained.

The Wiper party leader yesterday hinted that Ruto was behind the freezing of the accounts alleging that the DP was abusing his power by targetting strong opposition leaders in a bid to frustrate them into submission.

"You can all guess why the number two and his people are in my case as we head into the general election. We know people who were driven by vendetta and it is number two and his people," Kalonzo accused.

A section of Wiper party leaders reiterated the accusation in a statement that linked their party leader's current troubles with those of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho.

"Why are they freezing accounts selectively? First Joho now Kalonzo. We do not know who is next, they may even go after Kidero," complained the Wiper deputy party leader and Lamu Women Representative Shakila Abdalla.
