DP Ruto Says Corruption Suspects Will Not be Protected

Deputy President William Ruto has sent a strong message warning that the Jubilee government would not protect anyone who is caught up in corruption scandals.

Speaking in Meru where he was attending a fundraiser for Kaaga Methodist Church, Ruto stated that the current government would be firm in ensuring those who benefit from corruption funds are held accountable.

The DP directed the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to take swift action against those who participate in theft of public funds.

“We want to ask the agencies dealing with issues of corruption to move with speed and prosecute those behind the theft of public resources, irrespective of their status or political affiliations,” he stated.

Ruto warned public servants to keep off from corruption since the government would not tolerate such people in its ranks.

“The Jubilee Government will not protect anyone and if anyone is alleged to have misappropriated funds they will carry their own cross and we will make sure all workers in the government who have been involved in the embezzlement of public funds face the full force of the law,” he warned.

The DP’s comments came hours after it emerged that his senior Personal Assistant Farouk Kibet had received money from one of the key suspects of the NYS scandal.

In an affidavit submitted to the Parliamentary Accounts Committee (PAC), Kibet stated that he received Sh2 Million as a soft loan from Ben Gethi whom he claimed was an acquittance.

Kibet added that the soft loan was meant to assist his friend who was receiving treatment in India.
