DP Ruto Warns North Rift leaders Against Ethnic Politics

Deputy President William Ruto has issued a warning to Jubilee leaders in the North Rift against playing divisive politics using the Kalenjin sub-tribes.

Speaking in his political backyard of Eldoret in Uasin Gishu county, Ruto cautioned the leaders seeking elective seats that using the sub-tribes to perpetuate ethnicity for political mileage was negative and counterproductive.

"I do not want to hear anybody asking for votes saying he is a Nandi, Marakwet, Keiyo or any other community,” affirmed Ruto.

Ruto stated that the Kalenjins were one united family and the electorate was free to vote for whom they deemed fit regardless of origin.

He added that the day of reckoning for those sowing seeds of discord in the community was coming and the electorate will vote them out come August.

The DP’s sentiments in Eldoret, echoes earlier calls that he had made in Sotik, Bomet County, accusing area Governor Isaac Rutto’s Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party of being behind the divisions in the region.

The DP remarked that CCM was a ploy used by the Governor to divide the Kalenjin block for selfish political reasons.

DP Ruto was in Sotik to commission the repayment of Sh500 million to over 130,000 dairy farmers who lost their fortunes when the Kenya Cooperative Creameries (KCC) collapsed 20 years ago.
