Drama as Babu Owino Slaps Police Officer at Kilimani Police Station

Students Organisation of Nairobi University (SONU) chairman Babu Owino, on Thursday morning, caused drama at Kilimani Police Station where he stormed with a group of youth at around 7.30 am and immediately found himself behind bars.

Mr Owino, who was reportedly apprehended for demanding the release of businessman Chris Obure, denied the claims and divulged that his arrest came after he slapped one of the officers.

The aspiring Member of Parliament added that he had gone to the station to demand the release of one of the students who had been arrested on Wednesday night over alleged disorderliness after a drinking spree.

"No, I did not go to demand the release of Chris Obure. Police in Kilimani had arrested a comrade last evening on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. I mobilised several youth who accompanied me to the station, where we demanded that the right procedure be followed in apprehending our fellow student.

"However, officers on duty harassed us, which made me lose my cool and slap one of them. That is when I was arrested," Babu told eDaily.

The student leader was released on a Sh10,000 cash bail and will be arraigned in court on Friday.

Earlier, reports indicated that Babu had caused disturbance at the station demanding the release of Obure who was arrested for misusing his pistol.

Obure was on the run from police after he allegedly threatened to shoot a reveller at B-club in Kilimani area.

The businessman is said to have beaten and injured Ben Alila and his cousin on New Year's Eve.

According to a report made at Kilimani police station, OB Number 9/31/12/2016, Obure is said to have double-parked his black Range Rover at B-Club, and when asked to pave the way for Mr Alila and his cousin, he drew his pistol and threatened to shoot them.
