Drama as Secondary Students Attack Education Officials

Residents of Bura town in Garissa County were treated to unfortunate drama when Secondary school students caused chaos in the area, attacking county education officials for allegedly closing down their school.

Students from Bura Secondary School are said to have ganged up and ambushed the officials at the Bura sub-county offices with stones, forcing them to lock their office and hide under tables.

According to one of the officials named Mohamed Yarrow, the drama unfolded after they conducted an audit and revealed that the school's administration had been misappropriating funds.

The Inspectorate of Education reportedly froze accounts of the school and recommended that the principal be transferred, only for him to inform students that the school had been closed.

According to Yarrow who was injured in the incident, the rowdy group stormed the town disrupting business and finally gained access to the office compound.

“We were unable to move out of the offices as it was too late, we had to move quickly to close the doors from inside because we could do nothing as they were many and were throwing stones at us,” Yarrow was quoted by Daily Nation.

Police officers had to be called in to suppress the skirmishes as the irate students went ahead to descend on private businesses causing massive damage.
