Drama as Woman Storms Wedding, Laying Claim to Groom

Weddings are for most people, one of the happiest ceremonies in a lifetime but as faithfuls at a church in Nakuru found out, sometimes things go south.

The ugly side of a matrimonial union reared its head on Sunday, when one Loise Wanja Gichuki stormed Holy Resurrection Orthodox Church to stop groom- Samuel Gichuki and bride- Joyce Mukami Njoroge from being pronounced husband and wife.

Wanja claimed that the groom was her husband and that they had lived together as a married couple, together with their two children aged 18 and 16.

The groom, literally standing between the two ladies; his alleged wife and his bride was at loss for words as the congregation looked on with growing apprehension, unaware of what was going on.

The priest finally revealed to the congregation that Wanja had told him that she was the groom's wife and even had a family photo to prove the claim, although she lacked legal documentation to prove the claim.

He however faulted her showing up to disrupt the wedding on the said day, as the church had been making wedding nuptials announcement since May 31st asking anyone with reasons as to why Mukami and Gichuki should not be wedded to report to the church office.

He proceeded to wed the two, on grounds that he had a notice of marriage from the registrar of marriages hence nothing legally barred him from conducting the ceremony.

An incensed Wanja would proceed to scream and tear the notice of marriage into pieces which saw her get forcefully ejected from the church.

Speaking to The Nation, Wanja questioned the Church's stand to continue with the wedding ceremony despite her having showed her identity bearing the name Gichuki as evidence of her marriage to Gichuki.
