EACC Declares NGO Board Chairman Fazul Mahamed Unqualified

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has declared that NGO Coordination Board Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Fazul Mahamed is unqualified.

According to EACC's investigation, Mr Fazul was hired to be the CEO of the Board without meeting all the necessary qualifications that include a Bachelors degree.

"Investigations revealed that by the time the CEO was being appointed, he did not have a degree certificate which was a basic requirement for the position. This meant he was not qualified for the position during the time of his appointment," EACC stated.

The revelations came a day after Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka criticised Moahamed for freezing bank accounts of Kalonzo Musyoka Foundation.

The body alleged that the Foundation could not account for Sh146 Million obtained from donors to improve the lives of marginalised communities, provide healthcare and quality education to beneficiaries of the foundation.

The NGO Board also suspended all operations of Musyoka's organisation with immediate effect and dissolved its board of directors.

Musyoka, however, stated that the allegations were malicious and aimed at besmirching his character by linking him to misuse of funds in his Ukambani backyard where he enjoys massive support.

This not the first time the CEO's degree has been questioned. In November 2016, the Commission on Administrative Justice had recommended Mahamed's sacking.

It also called for him to be barred from holding public office stating that he was hired despite lacking relevant academic documents.
