EACC Recovers Sh17 Million in National Lands Commission Official's House

Detectives from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have recovered Sh17 Million from one of the houses of a senior government official.

The sleuths on Thursday raided the home of a National Lands Commission (NLC) staff where they recovered the money.

A senior EACC privy to the raid revealed that they found $160,000 and Sh1 Million in local currency stashed in the house.

“In total, Sh17 Million was found in the house of the NLC official,” the source stated.

The name of the official could not be immediately revealed to avoid tampering with the ongoing investigations.

The detective earlier on Thursday stormed the home of NLC Chairman Muhammad Swazuri and other top officials over corruption claims.

According to sources, the detectives were conducting a probe over skewed compensations on parcels of land acquired for construction of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR).

Swazuri has been under investigation by a parliamentary committee following a complaint by former journalist Mugo Njeru, who claimed that he bribed the Chairman to facilitate compensation of his prime land.

Njeru accused Swazuri of demanding a bribe of Sh1.2 Million to be compensated for their land which the government acquired for the SGR project.
