El Adde KDF Commander's Remains Finally Found

The Kenyan military has finally confirmed remains of the El Adde Commander two months after the deadly attack in Gedo, Somalia.

Major Geoffrey Obwoge who was in-charge of the Kenya Defence Forces Camp during the January 15 Al Shabaab ambush, was among the troops killed in one of the worst assaults against the KDF since entering Somalia in October 2011.

According to Obwoge's wife, Rhoda, her husband's fate was sealed two weeks ago, after she received a call from the Defence department asking her to visit the Memorial Forces immediately.

It is in Nairobi that the military broke the news to the fallen soldier's family, crushing their hope of finding him alive.

In a report by the Nation, Maj Obwoge's mother, Elizabeth, described her son as polite, obedient and hardworking.

She further said that no one was to blame for what happened as death could find anyone anywhere.

“I am grateful to KDF for giving us his remains so that we can give him a proper send–off. I don’t blame anyone for what happened,” she emotionally stated.

Major Obwoge family has confirmed that the soldier will be buried on Wednesday at Ogembo Township in Kisii county. He is survived by his wife and two daughters one aged 4 years and the other 6 months old.

After the attack, Chief of Defence Forces Gen Samson Mwathethe stated that the identification process of fallen soldiers would take long, owing to the complexity of the DNA tests.

The Military has remained quiet on the number of fatalities suffered in the attack, even though Al Shabaab claimed to have counted over 100 bodies of Kenyan troops.

KDF has since staged retaliatory attacks, killing dozens of the militiamen including their commanders in multiple air strikes and ground confrontation.
