Esther Passaris Attacked by Goons at University of Nairobi

Nairobi Women Representative aspirant Esther Passaris was on Friday evening attacked while attending the Women Students Welfare Association (WOSWA) at the University of Nairobi women hall.

Trouble started when a crowd of 30 goons, led by a former student at the institution and a Member of County Assembly (MCA) aspirant blocked her at the entrance of the institution demanding Sh 150,000.

In a series of tweets, Passaris narrated how the group roughed her up together with her bodyguards after she declined to give the Sh 150,000 demanded.

With the help of male students at the institution, her guards managed to get her to the hall where she delivered the motivational talk at the event.

However, when she was leaving UoN, the goons entered the school compound and held her at ransom, demanding money in order to let her leave.

According to the aspirant, they snatched her bag and went on to vandalise her car, breaking the door handles, side mirrors and threatening to burn it.

"They attacked us, broke the door handles of my car, side mirrors and threatened to burn the car. They roughed me up, and my bodyguards. They grabbed my handbag and found nothing. Now they got incensed. They stoned the car, blocked our passage with rocks, shouting abuses at me," she recalled.

Passaris says that she later managed to escape and sought refuge at Kileleshwa police station. The MCA aspirant who led the gang was later arrested.

Following the incident, she has urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and the police to take action against aspirants who resort to violence terming such acts unacceptable.
