Fake Pilot Geoffrey Mwangi Arrested at JKIA in Worrying Security Breach

Police are holding a man who has been masquerading as a pilot at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Geoffrey Mwangi was arrested by detectives who were suspicious of his movements.

It has been established that Mwangi had been accessing the airport facilities including the lounges and the other security-sensitive areas such as the airside.

The fake pilot was able to dupe the airport security since he always wore his uniform, badge, and a fake staff ID from Qatar Airways.

The suspect remained in police custody with the detectives hoping to get more information on the nature of his surveillance and the possible motive.

The detectives could, however, not immediately establish whether Mwangi had been able to fly any planes or if his movements were aimed at causing a security breach.

Investigations in the matter have included a thorough review of the CCTV footage, review of cell phone data, his contacts at the heavily guarded airports, as well as how he was able to obtain uniforms and identification documents.

The suspect was also found to have a car sticker and would park his car at the parking reserved for airline staff.

Kenya Airports Police Unit Deputy Commandant Rono Bunei moved to assure members of the public that security at the airport has been beefed up especially during this busy festive season.
