Families Left Homeless After Heavy Rains

Heavy rains witnessed in the country over the past month continue to cause havoc as flash floods and mud slides displace thousands of families.

About 1,000 families in Amuma, Garissa County are currently camping at Amuma primary school after their homes were swept away by flash floods during the weekend.

Speaking to The Standard area MCA Mahat Osman says the families took refuge at the school, which is located at a higher ground.

Osman says that no one was injured but that there is a looming humanitarian crisis due to the large numbers seeking shelter at the school.

Elsewhere in Mukurwe-ini, Nyeri County a landslide left 16 families homeless after their houses sank following heavy rains.

According to Citizen Tv, residents claim that such incidences are witnessed every year during the rainy season.

Residents have been advised to move away from the area.
