Family Seeks Justice as Man Who Raped Paralyzed Child Walks Free

A man who defiled a 12-year-old child in Kakamega County is yet to be arrested- a month after he committed the heinous crime.

The suspect who has been a neighbor to the family of the minor he raped had taken advantage of the fact that the girl is paralyzed from the waist downwards.

The minor has been forced to live in fear and a constant reminder of her worst nightmare, aware of the fact that the well known man who allegedly abused her walks free.

The girl's grandmother who is also her guardian, had left her alone at home to run errands, when the incident occurred.

The suspect, known by the name Vinnie allegedly sneaked into the house and attacked the minor.

Completely immobilized, the girl could only scream as the man committed the act.

He later threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

The child's grandmother later noticed blood stains on the girl's clothes and on further inquiry, found out what had taken place.

She approached the suspect who denied the charges but pleaded with her not to report the matter.

The elderly lady, however, reported the crime to the chief who then referred her to the police.

Ironically, neighbors in the small village turned against the woman, faulting her for having gone to the authorities instead of “settling the matter locally”

The young survivor was treated in hospital and while she does not remember physical pain due to her paralysis, the emotional trauma caused is evident in the details and clarity with which she narrates her ordeal to KTN.

The suspect is said to be shielded from the authorities by the locals.
