Warders in Langata Women’s Prison woke up to an early morning fire that left scores homeless.

The fire which started at around 5:30 AM allegedly was caused by an iron box, which a wardress forgot to disconnect from the socket.

According to The Star, a different wardress noticed smoke coming from the house raised alarm but it was almost too late as the gas cylinder in the house exploded resulting to a big fire.

Around 20 homes were reduced to ashes in the area of the prison where houses were made of iron sheets.

By the time National Youth Service were getting to the area, the warders had managed to put out the fire and salvage some property.
