Former IEBC Boss James Oswago, 2 others Arrested by EACC Detectives

Former IEBC CEO James Oswago was on Wednesday morning arrested by the Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) detectives.

Mr Oswago was arrested alongside Trevy Oyombra and Hamida Ali Kibwana over the infamous Chickengate scandal.

The four were apprehended from their homes in Nairobi later arraigned in court.

The EACC said it found "evidence of criminal culpability on the part of the four persons in its report to the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko who agreed with the recommendations."

Oswago has been at the centre of the Chickengate scam which allegedly saw the officials receive bribes from a British security printing firm, Smith and Ouzman, in a bid to secure a ballot paper printing tender for the 2010 Referendum as well as for Shinyalu and Bamachoge Constituency By-elections.

Oyombra, a former procurement officer at the defunct Electoral Commission of Kenya (ECK), is said to be the agent who worked closely with the UK firm to illegally get the deal.

Appearing before the  High Court, the three denied the charges and were released on cash bails.

Oswago and Kibwana were freed on Sh600,000 cash bail while Oyombra was released on a Sh1 Milion cash bail.
