Funds Assigned For Construction Of Three Major Stadiums

The sports sector was on Thursday rewarded for its excellent performance in the country, when Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich revealed that the government had set aside a significant amount of money towards the construction of three stadiums.

In his 2015/2016 budget speech, Rotich said that the government had assigned Sh1.8 billion shillings construction of additional stadiums in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Mombasa and Nairobi.

Rotich sad the allocation was meant to nurture sports talent and ensure that the country continues to dominate in sports.

According to Classic 105, he acknowledged that sports has been one of the biggest marketers of the country and should therefore be appreciated.

Stakeholders have lauded the allocation saying that it was long overdue.

The Nation quotes Sports Kenya Board chairman Fred Muteti saying the three new stadiums were part of a blueprint to set up sports cities.

The government's election manifesto had promised Kenyans five brand new stadiums in Mombasa, Nakuru, Kisumu, Garrissa and Eldoret.

Officials in the counties in which the stadiums will be built were thrilled at the allocation, saying the investment will boost sports tourism.
