Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Jakoyo Midiwo Asks ODM National Election Board to Issue Dr Paul Otuoma With Nomination Certificate

Gem MP and Leader of Minority in Parliament Jakoyo Midiwo has asked the Orange Democratic Movement(ODM) National Election Board (NEB) to Issue Dr Paul Otuoma the Busia governor certificate stating he won the nomination.

Mr Midiwo stated that  Sospeter Ojaamong’s agents and the County board officials should be charged for rigging votes during the nomination process that was held on April 14.

The Leader of Minority in Parliament further indicated that skewed result would not be accepted as aspirants have worked hard to secure tickets in a free and fair exercise.

“I am asking party officials and the elections board to allow democracy in the nominations to curb any fallout that might lead to voter apathy in ODM strongholds,” he stated.

The ODM National Election Board had nullified Busia County nomination results citing massive irregularities that had been experienced.

According to the results released on Friday, Ojaamong' had emerged the winner with 92,358 votes while his challenger Paul Otuoma garnered 63,752 votes.

Otuoma had cried foul following the announcing of the results saying he had been rigged out.

"People who voted in Teso South are more than the number registered with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

Otuoma claimed that his rival rigged in Teso South and Teso North.

"Seems like everybody voted for him from those areas," he added.

The Election board ordered a repeat of the exercise to be held on Tuesday 25th April 2017.
