Girl Killed, Another Injured by Abandoned Explosive

A 13-year-old girl died and another was injured after a metallic object they were playing with exploded.

The two girls were reportedly herding cattle when they came across the object at Loruko area in Isiolo County.

The girl died at the Archers Post Mission Hospital while the friend is recuperating at the same institution, the Nation reports.

Confirming the incident, Isiolo Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner Julius Maiyo said the two were rushed to hospital by locals who responded after they heard the blast.

This comes as the latest casualty incident of abandoned explosives.

The Deputy County Commissioner urged the military trainees practicing in the area to check the training ground after firing explosives.

Mr Maiyo, however sought to brush off speculations that the explosive could have been misplaced by the military soldiers training in the area.
