Qualified Kenyan accountants will no longer be required to undergo further training to be allowed to practice in the United Kingdom.
This is after a deal was signed Wednesday, allowing Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW) to recognize each other's certificates.
As such, a Kenyan who gets a job as an accountant in the UK will be given a play field level to that of the local accountants and thus the two will compete fairly for the same job grades and advantages and vise versa.
Unlike prior to the agreement where a Kenyan accountant had to be trained and acquire ICAEW qualification to work in the UK, one can study in Kenya and work in the UK.
This means a wider job market and higher prospects for Kenyan accountants seeking employment.
The move by the two bodies is aimed at easing labor exchange between the two countries.
Speaking to Business Daily, ICPAK chief executive Patrick Ngumi said.“It is a demonstration that ICPAK’s qualification framework has come of age and meets the international benchmarks.”
Following the memorandum of the pact, qualified accountants from either countries will also be allowed to register with either body.
