Government Moves 11 County Commissioners in New Reshuffle

The Government through the Ministry of Interior on Wednesday transferred 11 County Commissioners in a mini-reshuffle.

According to the ministry, the reshuffle was done to ensure maximum security in the run-up to the August 8, 2017, General Election.

In Nairobi, the County Commissioner, Godfrey Mwaura Kigochi, was transferred to Samburu County. Mr Mwaura will take over from current Samburu County Commissioner Mohamed Birik who has been sent to Kirinyaga County.

In what appears to be one of the biggest transfers, Bomet County will receive the third commissioner in a year after Mr Ekidor Erastus was transferred from Kirinyaga.

Wajir and Busia Counties will swap their Commissioners such that Michael Tialal will relocate to the Western Kenya while John Chelimo will move to the North Eastern.

Migori County, which was listed as a potential hotspot for violence, will receive a new Commissioner after Joseph Rotich was deployed to the area.  Mr Seif Idd Matata, who was serving as Migori County Commissioner will now move to Turkana in the same capacity.

Commissioner Isaiah Nakoru of Tana River County will take the helm in Nyamira as Nyeri’s Oningo Ole Sosio moves to replace him.

Nyeri County will have Makadara Deputy County Commissioner as their new boss serving in an acting capacity.

Turkana County Commissioner Stephen Ikua was transferred to Nairobi where he will serve under the Office of the President.

The Commissioners are expected to report to their new duty stations immediately.
