Governor Kabogo, Senator Kerrow and Nyamweya Could Face Charges

Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko has been asked to charge high profile individuals including Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, Mandera Senator Billow Kerrow and Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Sam Nyamweya.

The DDP's office confirmed on Monday that it had received a file from the National Cohesion and Intergration Commission(NCIC), recommending prosecution of Governor Kabogo over hate speech.

Speaking in Kikuyu while addressing a gathering at Thika Stadium, Kabogo allegedly said that he would go get CORD Leader Raila Odinga and Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama from their mothers' houses, if they continued to insult the President.

The Commission recommended that Kabogo be charged with ethnic contempt following his utterances that were contrary to Section 62 of the NCIC Act.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations(DCI) asked the DPP to also prosecute Senator Billow Kerrow for incitement to violence and disobedience of the law.

Kerrow had claimed that the Military was responsible for extrajudicial killings in Mandera, following reports that mass graves had been discovered in the county.

The government later conducted an excavation in the suspected area and no mass graves were found.

A file was also sent to the DPP's Office advising that FKF's Sam Nyamweya be charged with conspiracy to defraud Sh17.2 Million meant for the national team’s trip to Cape Verde last month.

Others in the prosecution pipeline are businessman Ben Gethi and Ms Josphine Kabura Irungu, who are currently facing other charges after they were linked to the Sh791 Million scandal at the National Youth Service.

The two could face additional charges of tax evasion over payments made to them by the NYS.
