Governor Mutua Breaks Into Tears in Public

Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua teared up during a meeting in Kitui County while speaking about some Ukambani leaders, who were against his efforts to bring development in the region.

Mutua said that some leaders were holding meetings, trying to undermine his 'Maendeleo Chap Chap' movement by launching malicious attacks and propaganda against him.

The Governor spoke of his intentions in eradicating poverty in the region, adding that advice from some leaders urging him to slow down was retrogressive, The Star reports.

According to Capital FM, the Governor hit out at the leaders, saying they were worried that people would question the development they had overseen in their counties, despite being in positions of power for some time.

Governor Mutua was the best ranked Governor in a recent poll, which also showed Machakos County as one of the best developed counties in the country.

He has been lauded by Kenyans and some leaders alike, for the development of Machakos County since he took office as governor.

His 'Maendeleo Chap Chap' campaign kicked off last week.

The initiative is meant to unite residents of Machakos and the Ukambani region, at large, to focus on development.

He was expected to hold several meetings in the region.

While the initiative has received backing from some leaders, some have dismissed it, saying it would serve to divide the Ukambani region.
