Hassan Omar Affirms That Wiper Party Supports NASA Deal

Wiper Party Secretary General Hassan Omar has refuted claims that they are emerging cracks in the National Super Alliance (NASA) after the naming of Opposition chief Raila Odinga as the coalitions flagbearer.

Speaking at a presser in Mombasa on Sunday, Mr Omar indicated the coalition was firm and that that it was not facing any threats of division and added that his party fully supports Mr Odinga's presidential ambitions.

“I think a set of divergent opinions by one or two characters that are not satisfied with a certain decision is not evidence of cracks on the coalition,” he stated

The Mombasa senator noted that NASA's deal was by far the best deal that the five principals could arrive at and that they believed that it would lead the coalition to victory in the August 8 elections.

“We do appreciate some of the concerns that have been made but these concerns are not evidence of cracks or disunity. There are legitimate concerns raised across the spectrum.

“On behalf of the Wiper party, I want to make it abundantly clear that we are part of that arrangement and that we appreciate the concerns made by some of our members,” Omar emphasised.

He further urged Kitui West Member of Parliament Francis Nyenze to support the NASA deal and help to popularise Mr Odinga Presidential candidature instead of complaining about the deal.

“We respect his opinion but we also want him to tone down so that we can move on and that whatever interest he thought the Kamba will secure through Kalonzo presidency, those interest can be secured as Kambas and Kenyans through Kalonzo as a deputy president

"Even those of us who wanted a Kalonzo presidency it is not because we wanted a president for Ukambani but a symbol of national unity.” He reiterated

His remarks come days after Mr Nyenze on Friday indicated that the Ukambani people got a "raw deal" and it would be difficult to convince them to vote for Odinga in the polls.

Nyenze revealed that NASA’s announcement that they had settled on Raila as flag-bearer came as a shocker both to the party and their supporters who were expecting Kalonzo’s ascend to the top seat.
