Heroine In Transit to Kisumu Nabbed at JKIA

Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials have intercepted a package of drugs sent from China at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The officers seized the drugs that were addressed to a recipient in Kisumu, after they raided one of the warehouses at the airport.

The one kilogram of narcotic substance believed to be heroin, had been sent through an International Courier agency disguised as massage pens.

KRA Customs and Border Control Commissioner Julius Musyoki, confirmed the incident saying that the case had been handed over to Anti-Narcotics Unit for further probing.

The officials described the case as being unique since previous similar incidents involved drugs being shipped out of the country.

Musyoka assured that the authority would enhance screening measures of cargo at all entry points.

“At all the ports of entry, we have significantly enhanced our capacity to identify narcotics and other illicit products. Our officers have also intensified screening procedures on all cargo entering or leaving the country,” he declared.

In recent weeks, KRA has stepped up efforts in recovering illegal cargo at the airport and ports, nabbing several consignments of illegal goods such as drugs, ivory and sugar.

Last week, the revenue authority discovered six kilograms of bhang declared to be dried fish being delivered through JKIA to Britain.
