HIV Positive Nanny Caught on Camera 'Harming' Baby

A househelp who was found to be HIV positive, was charged in a Kibera court on Monday for breastfeeding her employer's five-month old baby.

Beatrice Nyangweso pleaded guilty of the act, before resident Magistrate Charles Ondieki but insisted that she was not aware of her HIV status when commiting the offence.

Ms Nyangweso was arrested by the police on October 16 in Dagoretti, Nairobi, after her employer caught her on tape through a hidden camera set up in the house.

“It is through the nanny surveillance camera that the employer saw Nyangweso breastfeeding her baby and reported the case,” said the police.

The househelp was then discovered to be HIV positive which prompted the baby to be taken to hospital for immediate treatment.

The police affirmed that more charges would be pressed against Ms Nyangweso upon getting reports from the baby's doctor.

The case will be mentioned on Friday.
