State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed on Sunday revealed that President William Ruto’s visit to the United States will encompass more than meeting his counterpart Joe Biden.
The visit will start on May 20 in Atlanta, Georgia and end in Washington DC on Friday, May 24, where the President will have a briefing at the Pentagon.
In Atlanta, the President will kick off his visit at the Carter Presidential Library and Museum where he will emphasise the two countries shared commitment to governance, democratic values and anti-corruption efforts.
As outlined by Mohamed, Ruto will then proceed to Ebenezer Baptist Church where he is expected to pay homage to the civil rights struggle.
Still in Atlanta, Ruto will visit Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) where a new CDC-KEMRI partnership will be announced.
In the evening, he will be hosted by Kenyans in the diaspora where he will state his vision for citizens working abroad.
On Tuesday, May 21, President William Ruto will visit Spelman College where he will emphasise the critical role of higher education before visiting Tyler Perry studios to explore opportunities in the creative industry.
Ruto will later visit Coca-Cola headquarters before being hosted by the Mayor of Atlanta for dinner in the evening.
On Wednesday, May 22, Ruto will travel to Washington DC where he will be received with full ceremonial honours.
“Ruto will then have an audience with a bipartisan congressional delegation led by House Speaker Mike Johnson,” Mohamed explained.
He added that thereafter Ruto will meet the black congressional caucus and later a caucus of the senate.
In the meetings, Ruto will brief the legislators on climate change and how Kenya’s leadership is dealing with the adverse effects of climate change.
On Thursday, Ruto will lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery before holding a bilateral meeting with US President Joe Biden.
During the bilateral meeting, the two leaders will delve deeper into the Kenya-US relationship, especially in economy, security and health partnership.
Thereafter, Ruto and Biden will hold a joint press briefing at the White House before thereafter being hosted for a State dinner.
On his final day in the US, President William Ruto will be hosted for breakfast at the US Chamber of Commerce where the two nations will discuss on trade, investment and digital cooperation.
Later, he will have a digital roundtable discussion hosted by US Vice President Kamala Harris to explore the potential for expanding the US-Kenya digital partnership.
For his final event in the US, Ruto will visit the Pentagon where the Kenya-US defence partnership, especially in the fight against terrorism, extremism and cybersecurity will be highlighted.
