How Truck Driver Single-handedly Fought Robbers

A truck driver ferrying electronic goods worth millions to Uganda single-handedly fought off highway robbers along the Naivasha-Mai Mahiu road near Chechinia trading centre.

A witness to the Sunday night incident said the driver drove off while fighting the armed thugs who had jumped into the car after blocking his way with a saloon car. He reportedly hooted incessantly alerting other vehicles on the highway.

"The thugs attacked the driver who fought back while hooting and trying to drive off from the busy highway," said the witness, Adam Mwaura.

The robbers jumped from the moving truck and got into their getaway vehicle after failing to incapacitate the driver.

"The two suspects managed to jump from the moving trucks and into their gateway vehicle as other truck drivers moved in to rescue their colleague," he said.

The driver escaped the scene with stab wounds on the head and hands, and was rushed to a local hospital where he was later discharged, The Standard reports.

A senior police officer at the scene confirmed the incident, noting that the rate of highway robberies in the area was on the rise but they were keen to nab the thugs.

"We have increased patrols on the highway due to a rise in cases of highway robbery and it's a matter of time before we catch up with the thugs," said the officer who sought anonymity.
