Opposition Leader Raila Odinga may be barred from contesting for the Presidency if he is found culpable in a petition filed by a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), Human Rights Africa.
The NGO has written to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) questioning Odinga's integrity threshold and suitability to contest in the upcoming polls.
Human Rights Africa wants the electoral body to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if Opposition chief meets the requirement of Chapter 6 on leadership and integrity, to vie for the Office of the President of the Republic of Kenya.
"We also wish to beseech your office in keeping with your constitutional mandate to investigate various cases of misappropriation of public funds, trust, and abuse of office, where Hon. Raila is heavily mentioned and is allegedly involved in and make finds of their investigations to the public" the Organization's CEO Derrick Maliaka stated in the letter to the IEBC.
The petitioner cited complaints raised by the CEO of Dominion Farm Ltd, Calvin Burgess, who accused Odinga of frustrating him and his business after declining to fund his political activities.
The NGO also recommended that the IEBC conducts investigations on Raila's alleged involvement in the Greenfield JKIA expansion project and the NHIF Scandal through his close ally Prof. Anyang' Nyong'o.
