I Could Back DP Ruto's Presidential Bid in 2022 - Baringo Senator Gideon Moi Says

Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, a fierce critic of Deputy President William Ruto, has now said he is ready to back Ruto's presidential bid in 2022.

Speaking to a local daily, Moi stated that he had no issue with Ruto alleging that it was the DP who had never asked for his support.

“I have never crossed any path with him. I love him as much as he loves me," Moi said.

The senator added that when KANU announced they would back President Uhuru Kenyatta's re-election, it was automatic that they supported the DP.

“For us as a party, we have said we will support President Uhuru's re-election. If Ruto is part of it, we have no issues with him.

"I am perplexed some people have established enmity with me on allegations that I am challenging their political positions, yet I am just agitating on issues facing our people, like security in Baringo," Moi was quoted.

Gideon also disclosed that KANU’s decision to back Kenyatta was not influenced by the President’s visit to his father Daniel Arap Moi.

“Our families have come a long way. We are personal friends, so there were no political deals discussed. Mzee and the President discussed family matters and those of the nation," Gideon said.

Ruto and Moi have been fighting to control the Rift Valley with speculations rife that the latter could vie for the presidency come 2022.
