I Will Bring Back Stability at EACC – Wabukala Says

Retired Archbishop Eliud Wabukala has promised to bring back stability at the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) if parliament approves his hiring.

While appearing before the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly for vetting on Thursday, Wabukala stated that he would ensure the public had confidence in the graft body.

“There is a need to stabilise the secretariat and everyone else working there and also reach out to other groups of professionals, politicians, civil society and all Kenyans in rescuing the country from corruption for sake of our children,” Rev Wabukala said.

The cleric further urged the public not to lose hope in the fight against corruption as it was a collective responsibility.

“You can't fight corruption alone as a chair but I'll be seeking partnership from all departments,” Wabukala emphasised.

During the vetting, the reverend also revealed that so many friends had discouraged him from taking the job but maintained he would deal firmly with the challenges that came with the position.

Meanwhile, four Kenyans have opposed the nomination of Wabukala as the Chairman for EACC claiming he misused his earlier position as Anglican Church Archbishop.

They urged parliament to disqualify Wabukala citing that he had in the past used his office and powers to sanitize corrupt people and other unethical individuals.

The four argued that the retired bishop presided over religious functions such as weddings, baptisms, and burials of thieves and other people of questionable moral character.
