IEBC Reveals 12 Politicians Risk Being Locked Out of Election

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has indicated that at least 12 politicians have been omitted from the electoral agency's list or are missing from the list of the parties they belong, hence, risk being locked out of the August  8 General Election.

Those affected include Nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro who is listed under the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) despite having defected to the Amani National Congress (ANC), under whose ticket she intends to vie for the Ruaraka Parliamentary seat.

The same is the case for Kitutu Chache South MP Richard Onyonka, Nominated and South Mugirango parliamentary aspirant Silvanus Osoro who find themselves in a limbo after the IEBC also stated that they were on the ODM register despite ditching the party.

Jubilee's Baringo County governor aspirant Stanley Kiptis, Narok Governor aspirant Patrick Ntutu of the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party and his Nakuru counterpart Peter Koros are also said to be missing from the IEBC list.

However, for the case of Mr Kiptis, the Jubilee Party stated in a statement that a mistake was made while submitting the list to the IEBC, leading to names of seven aspirants missing in the list.

“Given the massive numbers of names of aspirants we submitted, we are together with the commission investigating where the mistakes may have originated from. We request affected aspirants to stay calm as we make corrections,” the Jubilee Party statement read.

On a flip side, the IEBC indicated that there was still time to amend the list but further emphasised that the changes must only be conducted by the political parties.
