The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has rolled out a countrywide voter registration exercise ahead of the much-awaited August 8th General Election.
In a statement, the electoral body announced that it will kick off the one month process from January 16.
IEBC Chief Executive Officer Ezra Chiloba stated that the Commission will be targeting young adults who have just acquired Identification cards but are yet to register as voters.
"Records with the registration bureau shows that nine million Kenyan adults have identification cards but are yet to register," Mr Chiloba said.
IEBC noted that it had up-scaled and would now use 7,793 Biometric Voter Registration kits for the exercise up from 5,776 kits used in the previous process.
Chiloba highlighted that the electoral body targets to have a provisional register printed by March 15 and open it for verification by April 10.
According to the plan, the verification is expected to last for 30 days, followed by amendments that will lead to a final register by June 17.
IEBC's goal is to have 22 million registered voters up from the 15,857,185 who had been listed as at June 30, 2016.
15,000 officials will also be deployed across the country during the registration process.
This comes amid a wide rift between Jubilee and CORD over the Election Laws passed by the National Assembly.
