As the country prepares for the 2017 General Election, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has launched a mass voter registration campaign targeting 4 Million additional voters.
The exercise which already started on February 15 is expected to run till March 15th this year.
Kenyans.co.ke saw it prudent to look for answers to some of the questions raised by Kenyans with regard to the registration exercise.
Here they are:
1.Who should register in the February-March 2016 registration drive?
- Those who have recently attained the voting age of 18 years and have acquired national identity cards.
- Those who were of the voting age by 2012 but did not manage to register as voters for variety of reasons.
- Those voters who wish to update their details.
- Those wishing to transfer from one polling station to another.
2. What do I need to register?
- You need your identification card or passport
3. Where can I register?
- There are 24,559 registration centres to be used during this exercise. A list of the centres can be accessed on the Commission’s website, www.iebc.or.ke.
4. Is online registration available?
- No, you must be physically present to register.
5. Once I register as a voter at polling centre X can I vote at polling centre Y?
- NO, a voter is supposed to vote where they registered because IEBC's register is polling station specific. You will not be able to find your details at a different polling station.
6. Can I transfer my registration from one constituency to another?
- Yes, to transfer your registration from one constituency to another, visit the IEBC office in your constituency of choice and upon presentation of you identification documents, ask the registration officer to facilitate the transfer by filling FORM D.
