IFMIS Collapse to Cause Delay in Payment of County Workers

It has now emerged that staff and other employees working for the County Government's will not receive their December salaries on time after a hitch developed on the Government's payment system.

The Payment system - Integrated Financial Management Information System (IFMIS) - has reportedly not been working for the last two days.

Making the announcement on Wednesday, Council of Governors Chairman (COG) Peter Munya said the system had collapsed, therefore, they could not process payments for vendors and suppliers who have offered various services to counties.

“We wish to notify the Press, members of the public and stakeholders that Ifmis, which has been marred with various challenges including mishandling of passwords and misappropriation of public funds, is currently experiencing technical hitches. The system has not been functioning for the last two days," the Meru Governor said.

Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya echoed his sentiments stating that IFMIS had not been working for two weeks in his county hence they were unable to process salaries for workers.

However, National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich denied the claims adding that the system is being upgraded but not that it has collapsed.

"It is absolutely not true that the system is not working. We are having an upgrade which might have slowed the processes but transactions are going on, only a little slower than usual," Rotich affirmed.
