IG Boinett And GSU Commandant Storm Vigilance House to Remove Grace Kaindi

The Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett and the GSU Commandant Joel Kitili on Thursday evening stormed Vigilance House in a bid to remove Deputy Inspector General Grace Kaindi from office.

Ms Kaindi reportedly did not leave but instead insisted on being given a dismissal or sacking letter before vacating the office.

Sources told NTV that a top State House official was earlier in the day at Vigilance House to try and persuade Ms Kaindi to vacate office.

This came a day after President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Mr Kitili to take over from Kaindi in an acting capacity.

Senior officials had earlier given conflicting statements about Ms Kaindi going into retirement while others said that she had stepped down. She was appointed as an Ambassador to an unspecified position, awaiting vetting and approval by Parliament.

There has been uproar from the opposition as well as sections of the civil society who have termed her dismisal as unconstitutional. Others have raised concern that the President should have instead appointed another woman to replace Ms Kaindi.
