Removal of Grace Kaindi as Police Deputy IG Sparks Protests

CORD leaders have expressed their dissapointment over the replacement of Grace Kaindi as Deputy Inspector General of Police, saying President Uhuru Kenyatta flouted the constitution when he made the leadership changes in the Police Force.

Led by ODM Chairman John Mbadi, they said the President had no power to fire Kaindi and that he also went against the Police Act.

The Opposition leaders asked Kaindi to ignore the President's directive and remain in office.

This comes even as the Federation of Women Lawyers Kenya (FIDA-Kenya) threatened to go to court to challenge Kaindi’s removal, which they also termed unconstitutional.

Lawyers have also faulted the replacement of Kaindi, saying the position should have been given to a woman to respect the one-third gender rule.

The President appointed Joel Mboya Kitili to replace Kaindi in an acting capacity.

The shake up also saw Martin Kimani appointed to the position of Director of Counter Terrorism Centre.
