Infants Die Under Hospital's Watch

Four infants died in Kangundo level four hospital after the incubator they were placed in stopped functioning.

The four, born from different mothers, were found dead after an alleged power blackout caused the malfunction.

A mother to one of the infants who could not bear the news of her loss claimed that she gave birth on Monday to a healthy baby but received the unfortunate news later on Wednesday evening.

In it's defence, the hospital claimed that there were no power problems and the incident was just a mere coincidence. The doctor in charge of the hospital, Dr Supa Tunje, said that the allegations were false and the deaths were inevitable.

She further added that two of the infants were born after prolonged labour and the other two had respiratory problems. She denied claims of power outage stating that the hospital has a back up power generator.

This comes barely a week after the country's health sector was put on the spot after a hit and run victim, Alex Madaga, spent 18 hours in an ambulance before being admitted at Kenyatta National Hospital. He later passed on due to the injuries sustained in the accident.

The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board resolved to sue the Kenyatta National Hospital and Coptic hospital, for failing to attend to the late Madaga. The investigations into the unfortunate incident followed a directive by the Health Cabinet Secretary, James Macharia, instructing the Medical Board to submit a report on the cause of Madaga's demise.
