Isaac Ruto Asks Uhuru to Account for Sh1 Billion Used to Campaign for Amina Mohamed

Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto has demanded that President Uhuru Kenyatta explains why Sh1 Billion was used to lobby for Foreign Affairs CS Amina Mohamed's bid to be Chairperson of the African Union Commission (AUC).

Ruto stated that the government should be held accountable for misplaced priorities adding that the spending was extravagant yet the country is facing other biting needs.

Speaking at Kapkesosio Primary School in Bomet, Governor Ruto claimed that the government was misusing public resources for unnecessary projects.

"It is saddening that Kenyans are currently dying from hunger and the government cannot supply relief food in the name of lack of funds while it could not hesitate spending a billion in campaigns for an individual's employment," he stated.

Ruto questioned how the AU Commission post would have benefited the country adding that there was no need of using resources to popularise Amina's bid since she already had a ministerial job.

The Governor stated that Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto should account for the spending before seeking a second term in office in the August 8 General Election.

"No one should be allowed to misuse public funds and assume that Kenyans are happy. President Uhuru and William must explain this to Kenyans," he added.

He urged that the Jubilee administration should be sent home indicating that the government did not understand the interests of Kenyans.

"This is a government that minds a few people. If it can spend a billion seeking employment of an individual, what is the need to have them in office anymore?” Ruto posed.

Ms Mohamed contested for the Commission's chairperson post but lost to Chad's Faki Mahamat despite the country engaging in intense lobbying for her election.
