ODM leader Raila Odinga has sensationally claimed that the people who assassinated controversial businessman Jacob Juma are after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s life.
Speaking on Thursday in Isebania, Migori County, Odinga alleged that the killers of Juma want to take out Joho because of his firm stand against the ruling coalition.
“People who killed businessman Jacob Juma now want to eliminate Mr Joho because of his firm stand… Let them try,” Odinga warned.
The former Prime Minister failed to give more details to the allegations but warned that there would be dire consequences if anything happens to the Mombasa Governor.
Odinga’s sentiments come after Joho on Monday alleged that there was a plan by the government to assassinate him as well as other Opposition leaders.
However, Mombasa County Commissioner Evans Achoki on Wednesday refuted the claims stating that the government cannot plot to kill any leader irrespective of their political affiliations.
Mr Achoki further warned the Governor to stop making unsubstantiated claims that could cause unnecessary tension as the country heads towards the General Election.
“Some of these statements, when they are made like that in public, are meant to create unnecessary tension. There is no government which can sit and plan to eliminate leaders and those statements are not true,’’ the County Commissioner affirmed.
Mr Achoki added, “If there is a leader who feels there is a threat to his life, the law requires them to report the matter to the nearest police station for investigations.”
Joho has been at loggerheads with the government after rejecting the new bodyguards that were assigned to him.
