Jakoyo Midiwo Quits ODM After the Party Failed to Nullify Nominations

Gem Member of Parliament (MP) Jakoyo Midiwo has officially ditched the Orange Democratic Movement after the party failed to nullify the Gem constituency nominations.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Mr Midiwo, who is also the deputy minority leader in the National Assembly, stated he will be defending his seat in the August 8 elections as an independent Candidate.

"I have already been cleared by Registrar of Political Parties and I will be defending my seat in the August election as an independent candidate," Midiwo stated in a phone interview.

The long-serving Gem MP further indicated he was forced to leave ODM, adding that someone within the party hierarchy had vowed to ensure he does not defend his seat in the polls.

"Someone in the party is rigging me out, but I don't want to divulge on that because I have already made my decision to vie as an independent candidate," he emphasised

He also reiterated that he would retain the seat he has been holding for 15 years.

The MP's woes with the party started after he lost the nominations to Elisha Odhiambo who garnered 10,590 votes against Midiwo's 8,950.
