Joe Mucheru Admits Receipt of Sauti Sol's Studio Mashinani Proposal

ICT Cabinet Secretary Joe Mucheru has made an unexpected confession regarding claims that the government 'stole' musical band Sauti Sol's project and launched it like its own.

The CS admitted that the music group had indeed submitted a proposal to the Youth Enterprise Development Fund similar to the government's "Studio Mashinani" project which was launched a week ago.

He, however, denied that the ongoing project had been adapted from Sauti Sol's proposal as the group had claimed.

He acknowledged the Band's complaint but insisted the idea had not been stolen but was just similar to that of the group.

Mr Mucheru explained that the former Chairman of the Youth Fund, Bruce Odhiambo, did not hand over the proposal to his Ministry, therefore, the government didn't have access to Sauti Sol's plan.

"Mr Odhiambo did not bring the document to the table for government discussion and possible implementation. It is therefore absolutely not right to lay claim to the idea." he stated.

Mucheru further noted that he was in talks with the Boys Band in order to resolve the matter.

Hours after the Studio Mashinani project was initiated last week, one of the members of the band expressed disappointment alleging that the government had poached their plan which had been presented to President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2015.
