Johnson Muthama Calls for Merging of NASA Parties Into One

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and Wiper Party could be dissolved if a proposal by Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama is adopted.

Muthama, a close ally of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, has controversially called for the disbandment of parties in the National Super Alliance (NASA).

The Senator who also sits in NASA's Coordinating Committee stated that the Alliance should adopt a method used by their rivals, Jubilee, of merging into one political outfit.

In an interview with a local daily, he stated that registering NASA as a single party would enhance unity and assure the Alliance of a sure way of sending the Jubilee government home.

He divulged that he had earlier called for the merger of parties in the former Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD), which he now wants to happen to the Super Alliance.

The Parties which form NASA include Wiper, which Muthama belongs to, Raila Odinga's ODM, ANC led by Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya of Moses Wetangula.

The recent development comes at a time when the recently unveiled outfit is grappling with how to pick its presidential flagbearer as every party insists on its leader being selected to take on President Uhuru Kenyatta in the August 8 General Election.

The Alliance has also been experiencing shakeups over the issue of nominations with some parties calling for joint primaries while others support holding independent party polls.

Last year, more than 10 parties including TNA and URP dissolved to form the larger Jubilee Party, in a move aimed at uniting the country and forming a strong outfit ahead of the upcoming polls.
