Joho Threatens to Sue the Daily Nation, Governor Mvurya and his Deputy Fatma Achani

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has threatened to sue his Kwale Counterpart Salim Mvurya, deputy governor Fatma Achani and the Daily Nation over a publication where Mvurya reveals why he fell out with him (Joho).

In the report titled: Why I fell out with Joho - Mvurya, the Kwale Governor claimed that Joho forcefully wanted stakes in the mining business in his county but after refusing to bow down to the pressure that was when a rift emerged.

Joho, who is the deputy ODM leader, accused the three parties of defaming him and demanded an immediate apology within next seven days.

He further wants the newspaper to pull down the article.

In the said article, Mr Mvurya accused Joho of trying to lord it over the Coastal Governors, hence, the fallout between them.

"Governor Joho wanted people who can kneel before him. He wanted to rule from Vanga in the south to Kiunga in the north so that all the five governors can be under him. I said no because I am a governor like him elected by the people of Kwale, just like he was elected by the people of Mombasa," the Kwale Governor explained.

Ms Achani was also quoted accusing Joho and other ODM leaders of plotting to incite Kwale people bordering the mining areas that Mvurya would have them evicted after a mining license for Base Titanium was renewed.

"He claimed that Governor Mvurya had allowed the renewal of the license when in actual sense, the renewal of the license which was issued in 1995 was blocked by Mr Mvurya who was taken to court for that," the Kwale Deputy Governor said.

She added that for the niobium minerals mined by Cortec Mining Kenya Ltd, Mr Joho also tried to interfere because he wanted some stake in the multi-billion project.

"But Governor Mvurya again blocked their schemes. That was the start of differences between Mvurya and the Mombasa governor," Ms Achani stated.
