Jubilee Nairobi Woman Representative Aspirant Wangui Ng'ang'a Arrested for Causing Disturbance

Jubilee Nairobi Woman Representative aspirant Wangui Ng'ang'a, is in police custody after she was arrested on Thursday evening for causing chaos.

According to reports, Ng'ang'a, who lost to incumbent Nairobi Woman-Rep Rachel Shebesh, was arrested and taken to Lang'ata police station for causing disturbance at Nyayo Stadium tallying centre.

Shebesh had on Thursday also been escorted by police to the Nyayo Police Station to record a statement after she stormed the tallying centre claiming she was being rigged out.

Shebesh alleged that there was a plan to rig her out of the race at Embakasi North polling station in favour of her competitor Millicent Omanga.

She forced the officials who were in the middle of the tallying process to halt the process as she expressed her disappointment in the exercise.

"We will not allow this to happen. I was leading and the Returning Officer decided to reverse my votes. That is not acceptable," she protested.

Another aspirant, former Starehe Member of Parliament MP, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who lost in the governor's race was also detained at Kileleshwa Police Station after she was arrested on Wednesday for the destruction of voting materials.

Bishop Wanjiru flanked by supporters allegedly stormed the City Park polling station and destroyed voting materials throwing the process into disarray.

On Thursday, Bishop Wanjiru was charged with malicious damage to property and creating a disturbance.

She denied the charges before chief magistrate Francis Andayi.

Andayi directed that the aspirant is detained for five days until police conclude investigations into the matter.

He said the politician is required to deposit a Sh500,000 bond and give two sureties after the five days elapse.
