Jubilee to Unveil Team to Choose Nairobi Gubernatorial Candidate

The Jubilee Party has announced that it will unveil a team to help it come up with an agreeable candidate for the Nairobi gubernatorial seat.

Speaking to journalists, Nairobi branch chairman Sunctus Ndegwa stated that the team would consist of business people, party representatives and religious leaders.

The team, according to Ndegwa, would assist in coming up with the most suitable person to take on incumbent Evans Kidero in the August 8 General Election.

The new move would help solve the ongoing disagreements in the party between two factions allied to Senator Mike Sonko and former Gatanga MP Peter Kenneth, who have expressed interest in the seat.

The chairman, however, explained that if the team fails to reach a consensus, the aspirants contesting for the seat would all face each other in the nominations.

Ndegwa explained that the party had resorted to forming a committee in line with Deputy President William Ruto's plan to have a strong candidate, who would beat Kidero.

At the same time, he urged the city leaders to be tolerant with each other and ensure internal democracy is maintained within the party.

“As we continue with internal negotiations, we urge our aspirants to accommodate each other. We need peaceful campaigns to enhance internal democracy and clinch the City governor seat,” he urged.

On Monday, the party was forced to apologise for violent altercations witnessed when Sonko and Kenneth supporters clashed during a football match in Dagoretti South.
