Two vehicles hired for Jubilee Party campaigns in Mandera County were Monday hijacked by Al-Shabaab militants who had crossed into Kenya through the border.
According to eye witnesses, the Al Shabaab operatives pretended to ask for a lift aboard the Hilux and Land Cruiser, only to hold the drivers hostage.
The vehicles together with the drivers were taken some 10km into Somalia.
The two drivers were later released but the assailants made away with the vehicles.
The vehicles are said to have been headed for El Wak region.
